Walk into Blue Otter and the first thing you'll notice on the wall is our level progression chart. It's not decoration - it's the single most important tool we use to make sure your child is always learning the right skill at the right time.
Why a chart at all?
Swim lessons that group kids purely by age tend to leave someone behind. A cautious six-year-old and a fearless six-year-old need very different things. Our seven levels - Little Otters, Guppies, Otters, Sea Turtles, Blue Whales, Orcas, and Dolphins - sort swimmers by skill, so every child works alongside peers at the same stage.
Skills, not just time in the water
Each level has a specific, checkable set of skills. A Guppy isn't promoted because a session ended; they move up when they can float front and back unassisted and kick a full width with a board. Instructors mark those skills off week by week, so progress is visible long before graduation day.
The four big milestones
Parents tend to celebrate four moments most: the first independent back-float (Little Otters), the first unassisted width (Otters), the first full length of freestyle with breathing (Sea Turtles), and the first legal competitive turn (Dolphins). Each one is a genuine safety and confidence leap.
You'll always know what's next
Because the chart is public and specific, there's never a mystery about where your swimmer stands or what they're working toward. Ask any instructor and they'll show you exactly which skill your child is one or two lessons away from checking off.
That transparency is the whole point: swimming is a life skill, and you deserve to see the progress as clearly as your child feels it.
